While the principles behind the education imparted at IWBS will always remain the same, studies and course content at IWBS are an ever-evolving process, recreating and restructuring to best fit the needs of the service industry. The intent is neither to create salespersons nor just aficionados. We aim to arm the students with knowledge that could help them grow as individuals in their own right, in their personal as well as their professional spheres of interaction.

DAY
COURSE

This course is aimed at people who have always regarded wine as some sort of a social scare. The single day session is designed as a gradual yet comprehensive first step into the world of wines. Attendees will learn enough about wine to distinguish the various styles of wines and comment on them, order wine in a restaurant to go with their food or buy for cellaring and serving with élan at a private soirée. A short yet concise look at the wine world with the most daunting and common of wine questions explained and answered.

The day starts at 0930hrs with registration over a welcome drink. The guests are then taken through light and fun presentations about wine with intermittent tasting exercises involving water, wine and more. Lunch and tea would also be served in-between. Although the stated time is six hours, generally the sessions tend to last longer, what with questions and queries galore at the end of the day. Although sessions will be conducted as often possible and mostly on weekends, advance booking is advised as seats are limited.

LEVEL 1 – TASTE EXPERT

Duration: Two weeks. Four days a week from 1000hrs-1400hrs. Although the classes are marked as four hours/day, they may sometimes stretch and hence the yellow zone which is advised as best kept available for studies. Tuesdays are off, for reasons best understood by Indians.

Eligibility: Please refer to Enrolment Requirements under Admissions.

This is the first level of wine and beverage studies at IWBS. This is the introductory level course and intended for those who would like to initiate a career in the beverage industry as also for those who merely wish to acquire a slightly more in-depth understanding of the subject. As stressed everywhere, wine or hospitality knowledge is NOT a pre-requisite and anyone who deems him/her self proficient in English is welcome to apply.

The course takes you on a zip-trip through the wine-producing regions of the world and also the common spirits of the beverage world. Service and storage, serving and tasting are also covered. History and the future of the beverage industry are also part of this formation.

Although every aspect of wines and spirits are important, Level 1 covers the most basic of training regarding beverage handling, at home or in a professional setting. However the most stress at this level would remain on service: ordering, handling a bottle, opening and serving efficiently and gracefully, tasting and checking for faults and finally a strong idea of service temperatures and ideal storage with stress on ageing and maturing of wines.
