The Certificate 1 in Beers course offers a great starting point for someone who has always enjoyed drinking beer and now wishes to explore what goes into it. This one-day program perfect for the weekend, imbibe some learning in a laidback setting. The course covers a basic introduction to beers, the various styles, production methods and how they vary, storage and service with a focus on temperature, glassware and pouring etiquette. We also throw in some tidbits on beer myths and folklore.

Best suited for drinking buddies, hotel management students, new entrants in the beer trade, front-line professionals, and future aspirants.

At this level, our educators aim to develop a strong foundation of knowledge on the subject with confidence in conducting a sensorial analysis of your favourite brew. Apart from all that is mentioned above, we also engage in a more contemporary discussion on current brands, prevalent styles and trends in the market followed by a fairly intense tasting of a good many brands and styles.

How Do I Enrol For The Course?

Select the city of your choice and the session dates, fill in your information and submit the same to us. We will reserve a spot for you at the selected batch. Once the payment is made you will be registered for the program and will soon receive a confirmation email with joining details.

What Happens If The Session Is Full?

You can still register and we will put your on the waitlist. In case you still do not get a space on the said session, you will automatically be considered for the next session on first-come basis. You will not be booked but we will present you with the first right to refusal.

When Do I Receive The Study Material?

For Certificate 1, you do not require prior studies. You’ll receive the study material on the day of the course itself. However, should you wish to receive it in advance, upon your complete enrolment, you can email us at mail@iwbs.in or call us at 9560046655 and request for the same.

Do I Bring Anything To The Sessions??

Yes, please carry your own stationary and a Government photographic ID proof for the examination. In case you’re a foreign national, kindly carry an equivalent ID proof, or your passport.

What Is The Cancellation Policy?

In order to cancel your booking write to us at mail@iwbs.in along with a cancellation and refund request. Should the request reach us 15 days prior to the course's starting date, no cancellation charge will be levied. However, a cancellation charge of INR4000 will be levied, in case the the request is made less than 15 days before the course starting date. No refunds will be made in case the request is received 7 days before the beginning of the program. In case of cancellation of the course by IWBS full fee will be refunded.

Refunds are made via credit vouchers only

What Happens After The Examinations?

We take approximately two week to evaluate the Certificate 1 examinations and announce the results. You’ll receive your scores via registered email only. Your scores will not be disclosed to others and vice versa. Post that, your certificates will be furbished which can be collected either from our office in person or can be couriered to you via a local courier company.

Please note, all couriers are dispatched with personal responsibility of the receiver. In case of any damages or loss during the courier process, IWBS will not be liable for the same.

What Next After Completing Certificate 1 in Beers?

The next natural progression is to study the Certificate 2 in Beers. It is an extensive study programs and requires a lots of tastings too. We highly recommended prior self study and tastings, especially of craft beers, and those at microbreweries. We suggest you to register as early as possible and be in possession of your study material in order to get on to some self-study before coming to the sessions.

How Do I Keep Up With Tastings?

If you’re a consumer, you can become a member of ‘Induge', our members only gastronomy society. We host masterclasses, tastings, and experiences around wines, beers, spirits, cocktails, and food, hosted by winemakers, brewers, mixologists, distillers, and there industry experts.

For professionals, you can keep up with tastings on-the-job. But to elevate your knowledge in a guided manner, join the professionals-only ‘Society of Sommeliers’. Here, all industry beverage professionals meet to share views, knowledge, experiences, and skills, to wholesomely develop the standards and knowledge of the industry.

As a part of the course you will learn:

  • Tasting beers + beer faults

The Certificate 1 in Beers is assessed by means of a 50-multiple choice questions examination, to be completed in 60 minute. Candidates are required to get a minimum of 35 correct answers to graduate the program.
