First and only Indian to qualify for Sommelier-Conseil from L’Université du Vin, Suze-La-Rousse, Rhône Valley, France, Magandeep SINGH has many accolades to his name. Author of ‘The Indian Spirit – The Untold Story of Drinking in India’, and Wine Wisdom, both published by Penguin Publications, India, Magan has extensively studied the discipline, and judged beverages across the world. He has been a constant jury at Decanter Wine Awards, International Wine Challenge, International Wine and Spirits Challenge, Concour Mondial de Bruxelles, Juliet Cullinan Wine Awards in South Africa, and at the annual Singapore-based Wine and Style Asia Awards. Magan has been a successful television show host for “Around the World in 85 Plates” with NDTV Good Times that aired 85 episodes spanning over four seasons.
For his knowledge and services to the wines of the world, Magan has been intronised into the German VDP wines counsel, Chateauneuf-du-Pape AOC, and into the Bordeaux Left Bank Confrerie. He was the Indian author for Opus Vino, chapter on Indian Wines, which was adjudged as the Best Wine Book by the World Gourmand Awards, 2010.
On the home turf, he has been an Ex-Member of the prestigious and government-run Indian Grape Processing Board (under Ministry of Food Processing) as Wine Training Expert for the entire local Indian Wine Industry. Magan writes extensively on wines and beverages, as also on sneakers, watches, and deep see diving.
Gagan is a serious wine professional who doesn’t let dust settle on his books. He holds the prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Level 4 Diploma in Wines and Spirits, was amongst the first Indians to be awarded the Court of Master Sommeliers’ Certified Sommelier award, and is the only Indian to hold the French Wine Scholar Guild diploma. He has been a WSET Certified Educator for their courses in India.
Gagan loves to travel and has been on the tasting panel of Barolo & Barbaresco DOCG, Prosecco DOCG, and for Wines of Sicily DOCG in Italy. Currently he also is the tasting panel co-ordinator for the Sommelier India Wine Magazine.
Gagan writes passionately on wines and beverages in various Indian-International magazines. He also loves to travel and hold a prestigious entry in the Limca Book of Records for being the first Indian to have travelled the 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India within a calendar year.
He is a keen mountaineer and has studied the discipline as well. He aims to climb some of the toughest, yet the most breathtaking peaks of the world. In other times, he’s either rendezvousing with the winds as a trained paragliding pilot or romanticising Urdu
Sahil MISRA is the youngest member of team IWBS and also one of the few Indians to be awarded the Court of Master Sommeliers’ Certified Sommelier award on his first try while also holding prestigious Wine and Spirit Education certification. In the past, he has worked with The Oberoi Hotels and is currently, and today, in his capacity as a sommelier, he handles various F&B and academic projects and is also a member of the Sommelier India Wine Magazine tasting panel and a voting jury for the World’s Best Vineyards Awards.
As a beverage educator Sahil has trained top hospitality colleges and management trainee programs of internationally-renowned five star hotels. Sahil has handled beverage programs for more than a dozen established fine-dining restaurants across India including the internationally-famed eatery, ROOH. Given his experience as a sommelier, Sahil has worked with international hospitality companies like The Taj group of hotels, The Leela group of hotels, ITC, and also helped animate wine events for various wine bodies and embassies including the Australian High Commission, the Embassy of France, Spain, Chile and Japan. He is a part of the team behind The Indian Sommelier Championship and The Young Sommelier’s Olympiad.
Sahil MISRA is a young wine professional who started his journey from the hilly town of Shimla, India.He is a keen wildlife photographer and an enthusiast of contemporary culture and pop iconology,. When not chasing the next elusive wine or region, Sahil likes to learn through his travels and indulge in new and novel experiences. He reserves a special place in his heart for dressing up, photography and music!
